Doreen Carscadden

For Doreen, there is something magical about the creative process. She was gifted oil painting lessons by her mom and stepdad at the age of 12 but the desire to create goes back as far as she can remember. Doreen has spent several decades exploring art and creative making of all kinds and has found herself coming full circle back to painting. When she paints, her goal is to take herself to a place where there is no such thing as good or bad. Just a place to realize the stories and visions in her imagination. She strives to paint loosely and yet often finds herself attending to details….so she (mostly) settles on what comes out. Doreen feels lucky to have called Vancouver Island home since 1967. A homebody at heart, Doreen is in her happy place among the trees, walking local beaches and in her garden chatting with the neighbours chickens when they wander over to visit!

Statement

I paint mainly in acrylics and have a deep love for colour. I am mostly self taught with the exception of a few in person workshops and long ago oil painting lessons at the age of 12.  My current work consists mainly of florals and birds including my neighbours chickens who would wander over through the woods and visit almost daily during the summer. The curiosity of these chickens along with the beauty of flowers has been a huge source of happiness for me. I hope to pass that happiness along to others.
