In January 2014 I joined the Cowichan Valley Camera Club, became a member of the Canadian Association for Photographic Art in March 2015, and a member of the Photographic Society of America in September 2020. I joined the local camera club because I wanted to improve my photography, even though I have been snapping photographs for over 50 years. My interest in photography started as a child using the family’s Brownie camera. The world of cameras and photography continually changes. Upon the purchased of my first DLSR camera, an entire new world of photography unfolded before my eyes. There is always something new to learn. Post processing a RAW image, with the multiple photographic software that is available on the market today, is fascinating and intriguing. I always enjoy a challenge, so I photograph numerous genres. I am continually learning and trying new techniques.
StatementLois DeEll – Photography Artist Statement
I see art in my surroundings through the camera’s viewfinder. My camera is the tool that I use as an artist uses their paint brush on canvas. With my camera in hand and a visual perspective of a subject, I can record the digital image and further enhance that image as I first visualized it with photo editing software to produce artwork.
I photograph various genres that includes flora, fauna, Intentional Camera Movement, and Street Photography on the top of the list. I strive to stimulate the emotion that is withheld within the image and complete the visual story that is being told. Photography strengthens my visual field and further enhances the small and often unseen elements within the image.
