Trenton lived on Gabriola Island for five years in search of a quieter and more peaceful life. In those five years he really found his passion for the Arts. He currently creates his art in a small two bedroom condo in Nanaimo with minimal supplies. Trenton has been a creative person all of his life and likes to add color and creativity into everything he does. Since the opening of the new skatepark on Gabriola Island, Trenton was inspired to create customized, unique, and personalized skate decks as the culture emerged in the small community. He uses acrylic paint as his main medium and likes to paint scenes from movies most of the time, showing off his love for cinematography. As a young artist he likes to explore other mediums and dabbles in things such as ceramic, clothing, and sometimes sculpting. Overall, Trenton loves to paint because he uses it as a way to relax and express himself when he is feeling angry, sad, calm, frustrated or when he's at peace with himself. The mix of emotions makes his artwork collide and contrast with each other showing off elegance and beauty in some spots, and a dreary mess in others. He is in hopes that he can share to others that anyone can be creative, as well as creativity can show in many different forms aside from visual art.
StatementArt and skate culture have gone hand and hand for many years now. The idea of having unique artwork on the backside of a skateboard is a very personal thing for most skaters in the community. A personalized and unique board will show someones true colors as well as a bit about their personality. For me, I like the idea of using a blank deck as a canvas because it allows me to create anything I'd like without the fear of comparing myself to others. Since skateboarding has gained a reputation for its grunge like nature, I like to contrast my work by painting beautiful and elegant scenes, combining the two styles. I put a lot of fine detail in my work because It resembles just how complex and creative a mind can be.
