Sandra Yaxley

Sandra followed a life-long interest, and occasional art course, in 1991 on retirement. She was then fortunate to be able to pursue that interest by taking and completing a Fine Art Certificate at community college in Ontario.

During this time Sandra was a founding member of the Rideau Lakes Artists Association in 1993. This Association offered workshops with well know artists, weekly Paint-ins and occasional Paint-outs in various locations. They also had an annual show. All these activities Sandra joyfully participated in.

Sandra has worked in watercolour, pastel, acrylics and mixed media.

I am drawn towards exploration with watercolour and acrylics.  Watercolour fascinates me, as it merges and blends quickly on the media’s terms.  Acrylics challenges blending but offers more control. 

I have spent many years living on a lake in Ontario.  There my inspiration surrounded me.  Nature gave me a special feeling and provided an atmosphere of beauty  and peace.  I strive to bring that experience and energy into my paintings. 

I also like to play with the canvas.  I let it speak to me as it captures colour and texture. I follow that voice and instinct with no specific plan of an outcome. 

In 2020 moved to beautiful Vancouver Island.  I am excited to hear and translate the voices that speak to me here.
