Starky Rubble

I‘m Starky Rubble, a digital person, and this is my story

In my physical period I wore many hats. Here is a selection: Eagle Scout, clerk, short order cook, skilled machinist, shopkeeper, hippie, hubby, dad, mechanic, jug player, psychedelic evangelist, organizer, outside agitator, criminal element, public speaker, prisoner, communard, builder, programmer, ISP, immigrant, but mostly I was a builder, then a programmer. I have always been a politico & appreciated the arts.

Recently, I was reshaped by misfortune, scalpel, and saw, into a permanent monopod.

After healing and rehab I was released to start a new life in my basement office bound to my chair and my bed.

These transformational events caused me to let go of what I was, to stop, look around, and ask "What have I become?"

I saw that I had become my avatar, Starky Rubble, and that I had started a new phase and that I should unleash my inner artist.

I explore my wide range of interests on the Internet, sticking textures, words, concepts, etc. into folders that I later mine for a post, an idea, a seed.

My pictures are postcards from the long strange trip I’m on.

I hope you enjoy them!

Statement

Starky Rubble's Statement

In the middle 60s I had a terrific History of Art and Art (twice) instructor who, in the final semester took his best students to NY, NY where we went to Andy Warhol’s Factory – got to meet him, Ultra Violet, the Velvet Underground & all sorts of characters. Later that day we went to the gallery where Edward Keinholz had just set up his ‘Barney’s Beanery’ for its New York opening.

So I had some grounding in art, I’d been to the big museums several times each, experimented with styles & mediums…

I was fond of the Surrealists – Dali at first, later Magritte & Ernst.

I got serious after I became disabled.

I never know where I’ll find myself when I start a new picture.

Usually, something I’ve seen or dreamt, heard, said, or read, plants a seed…

Often an image pops entire, into my head and I begin. Often I begin many times. Usually I digress. I see something else and boom! I’m off in a new direction.

Sometimes I have an explicit message I want to impart but more generally I want to invoke a feeling or just share a moment of beauty.
