Melanie Barnes

Melanie grew up in Winnipeg and moved to Vancouver Island in 1992. Joining Saanich Peninsula Arts and Crafts Society she produced their newsletter then moved on to become President. She participated in the yearly SPAC shows and the Sidney Fine Art Show. Working as a show volunteer for both, she gained valuable experience and made many friendships. Now living Mid Island, she paints figures at the Cathouse Gallery and organizes a weekly plein air group. Her work is in collections in Canada and abroad.

I am intrigued by people and their diverse personalities and it is my passion to paint them. The human form is to me a landscape of shapes and curves, lines and ridges, and colours within colours. The scope of my artist materials and the freedom of expression with them lures me into a world of delicious discovery. I find I lose myself in the process- a kind of Alice in Wonderland fantastical trance!
