In Mexico there is a day called Day of the Dead. It is a day to remember our ancestors and loved ones that have passed. This is a painting of my two dear friends from Mexico that have immigrated to Canada. I wanted it to be themed around Day of the Dead and to have an element of magic to it. The "cempasuchil" or Marigold flower is a flower that leads the dead relatives to their visiting place on November 1st and so these are depicted in the painting. This is a painting to me that symbolizes that even though they have moved to another country they will always carry their ancestors and family from Mexico with them to Canada. Oil paint used with brushes and pallet knives.
