Jonathan Hoskins retired to Gabriola Island, British Columbia in 2018, following a 40 year career in Health and Human Services management in the US. In the Pacific Northwest he was a recognized expert in data presentation graphics, written and visual communication, marketing, and data visualization - with presentations at regional, national and international conferences. Additionally he has been printmaking on and off for over 3 decades, including water based monoprints and watercolor paintings. For the last three years, Jonathan has immersed himself in art studies and a practice. He has branched out into vibrant acrylics, and multi-media abstract paintings and prints. He states of his work "I am especially driven to depiction of geometric, natural and spatial concepts. I love the light and natural colors, earth shapes and energy of Gabriola Island . I love the process of creating freely with intuition and experimentation, followed by refining a finished work."
Statement“I have spent a lifetime exploring, refining and practicing communication in all forms. I love to build art in a process that navigates a dynamic tension between free, joyfully, intuitive creation and the purposeful problem solving and refining the intention. I am often surprised where a piece may lead me to initially and the solution that emerges. My ultimate goal is to create living, multi layered art that engages the viewer and encourages them to explore and find their own personal meaning and emotional response. Using multiple layers and applications, I want to create works that constantly reveal themselves in different ways as light and the viewer’s perspective changes.”
