StatementShades of Grey
The Port Alberni Harbour Quay attracts thousands of tourists each year and is important to local people for the Farmers Market, great food and community events. This highly detailed watercolour painting features the scenic beauty of the Harbour Quay. I used a video clip taken with my iPad Pro tablet and several photos over the first week of January 2023. I used the video clip and photos as reference to create a panoramic painting. I also visited the site on several occasions to analyse the light and colours as photos sometimes lack sufficient detail. The light during January in the Alberni Valley is very subdued. All the colours tend to blend into “Shades of Grey”. I documented the progress of this painting on my Facebook page as a lot of my fans enjoy following my art process. I do this to demystify the creation of art and by doing so, hopefully encourage others to express themselves artistically. Here is the link to my social media post: https://www.facebook.com/perma...
I choose watercolour as my medium as I love the luminosity of watercolour paint on white paper. I like how the paint is absorbed into the surface of the paper.
