Diane is a person who needs to be creative. This started in her early 20’s and has grown ever since. Initially it was just for herself but as she got more involved, she realized she wanted to share her work with others. She started taking photography lessons in her early late 20’s but then in her early 30’s weaving came into her life. She spent 29 years weaving mainly tapestries, rugs and blankets, but continued with photography as a secondary interest. The love of colour and texture came alive in her weaving pursuits and spilled over into her photography. In 2011 Diane moved back to photography as her creative interest. Starting in 2017 Diane signed up for yearlong professional photography course, graduating in 2018, with a Diploma in Professional Photography. From there Quadra Lady Photography was born.
Diane loves being outdoors taking in the beautiful colours and textures of our natural environment. Flowers and trees particularly intrigue her, as does beautiful scenery. When taking her photographs Diane uses her knowledge of lighting, composition and her camera’s abilities to capture what she sees. Diane’s developing strategies, for each photo, is to use the minimal amount of assistance from her developing program to produce her creation.
Diane was born and grew up in the Fraser Valley but was always draw to the ocean. Since her early 20’s she has lived on Vancouver Island and then Quadra Island surrounded by the ocean and a fabulous natural environment. At times a photograph opportunity is a spur of the moment decision and other times there is time to set up equipment. One time it took 3 hours to get the exact image that she wanted, of a tree frog hiding in the petals of a Chrysanthemum flower. Another time just a few seconds to capture a photo of hummingbird babies in their nest.
Diane’s achievements include having photos chosen to grace the cover of the Quadra Is phone book, once in 2020 and again in 2022. In 2022 she had separate photos chosen by the Campbell River Downtown BIA, one for a Spirit Square banner and one for a mural gracing a public building.

StatementI love being a photographer as it gives me such joy and fun taking detailed photos of flowers, trees & beautiful scenery. The depth of a Sunflower with bees flying all around it feeding is amazing. The beautiful textures of a Western Red Cedar tree surrounded by mist created a spiritual experience for me as I stood quietly appreciating the scene. Seeing the new spring growth on the Big Leaf Maple Trees with their beautiful hanging flower stems that are so detailed or standing in Minus 3C on a incredibly clear winter night, with my husband, as the Super Blue Moon starts to rise. Then over next 30 minutes enjoying the stunning moon river that fell across the open waters. These all just took my breath away plus I got to capture the scene!
I use a Nikon 35mm camera that allows me to photograph in a RAW format so that I get absolute detail in all parts of my photo. This gives me total control over how I develop each photo.
I invite you to enjoy my work and hope that you take away the feelings of fun, joy and excitement I feel while creating my photos.
