Miki took a break from art, but unable to ignore her passion, she started painting again in 2014.

Statement

I celebrate beauty of West Coast by creating contemporary wildlife paintings to share the pure joy of experiencing nature with my audience. Three important elements of my paintings are the lively subjects, the natural settings with contemporary feeling, and the harmony with great amount of empty space or simple background.

Through patient and careful observation in the field, I capture the emotion of my subjects - the playfulness, peacefulness, excitement, curiosity, and love - which. I bring to my audience to encourage their imaginations to wander.   often I paint my subjects in hyper-realism to empathize their own natural beauty.

Also, I’m attracted by those settings that have naturally occurring contemporary feelings such as water, clouds, and light. Their forms, texture, transparency and reflections tickle my creativity and add a clean touch to my work.

I leave empty spaces or use simple background in my painting to create great harmony. this idea came from my Japanese calligraphy background. The emptiness adds airy balance and almost “invisible movements” into my paintings. I like my creatures have space for the next or previous movements.

I invite my audience to experience the true nature and create their own stories in my paintings.
